Hello dear family,
For those of you that don't know, Tan was recently experiencing unexplainable nose bleeding, migraines + headaches. What was first thought to be due to high blood pressure or dry humidity was soon later found to be a cancerous tumor growing underneath his sinus & eye socket area.
I'm afraid to report that Tan was ultimately diagnosed with late stage Paranasal Sinus Cancer. Being that the tumor was in sensitive area and posed an immediate threat, his team of doctors opted to have the tumor removed ASAP.
Tan has gone through 1 cycle of chemotherapy and has successfully completed surgery and removal of the tumor this past week. His right eye could not be saved and he has gone through extensive facial reconstructive surgery. The neurosurgeon explained that there is still residual cellular cancer in his frontal lobe which will be treated with further chemo and radiation post recovery. He will still have a very hard battle ahead of him.
At this current time, Tan is stable and recovering in ICU. He is able to hear our voices, open his left eye, and respond with head nods. The nurses have been helping him sit upright and stand on his own the past few days which shows good progress. If he is able to continue along this trajectory with no complications, he will be transferred to a regular hospital room for further monitoring. He has a breathing tube which will be removed by tomorrow and a feeding tube for intravenous food for a few months until he is able to eat again.
Aside from the immediate threat to Tan's health and longevity, Cancer has far and wide ripple effects for family and loved ones mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially.
I'm putting together this go fund me campaign to help Tan & Mailinh out with rapidly mounting medical expenses so that Tan can focus on what he needs most at this time, healing.
No amount is too small, and any amount is a gesture that will go a long way. Words of encouragement and support will also be invaluable at this time.
Thank you family. I'll be posting further updates on Tan's condition here as information becomes available.
*Please only share this with family members. Tan is a pretty private individual and would prefer this info not be on social media. Thank you.
