Help Tam-Tam save the Tata’s!

Friends and Family,
As many of you know, our mom Tammy Smith, was recently diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in late January of this year. Mom has battled breast cancer once before, and while it was a difficult season for our family, mom kicked it’s tail and has been healthy until this recent diagnosis. Our mom is strong and so is our family. This too will be another difficult season and we believe mom is going to win this fight as well.
That said, mom has a long road of treatments ahead of her and she will need the support of her family, friends, and her communities. She has already started her first round of chemo treatments which is a total of twelve weeks. After this first twelve weeks of chemo, she will begin a new round of chemo treatments that will be an additional twelve weeks of treatment. Mom is currently in good spirits and is as active as ever. She’s hiking, and walking, and getting lots of rest, but we know that the road may get harder as treatments go by. During these twenty-four weeks of chemotherapy, it is very possible that mom will start to lose her hair at any point.
We, Ema and Ciara, have been doing some research and found a local company based out of the Seattle area called, Compassionate Creations, that specializes in making wigs for people like our mom. Our plan is to donate our hair for this company to use to make this wig for mom. However, even though we will be using our hair, there is still great cost to creating this gift for our mom.
In addition to the cost of the wig, of course there is simply the medical costs that Mom and Dad will have throughout her treatment plan. After the twenty-four weeks of chemotherapy, Mom will undergo a mastectomy, and then shortly after she will endure a total of twenty-seven more weeks of chemotherapy. Each treatment will look a little bit different and anywhere in this process she can lose her hair, or experience any of the known side effects to chemo.
We know that Mom and Dad love their community here in Coupeville as well as their communities in Arizona, and we want to include you in supporting them as they fight this together. If you’re here in Coupeville, in honor of how much our Mom loves to walk, we will be hosting a community 5k where all of the proceeds will go directly to Mom’s wig and medical costs. You can find the details for the 5k below. If you are in Arizona or another neighboring community and cannot participate in this 5k, we would ask that you would simply pray with us for Mom, her healing, and our family as we walk through this next season together. If you feel led, you can also give through this Go-Fund-Me account and any donations will of course also go towards Mom’s wig and medical costs.
Finally, we want to express on behalf of our family how thankful we are for the love, prayers, and support we have already received from so many of you. We’re so excited to host this 5k for Mom and hope that you will join us. And, of course, once the wig is made and delivered you can expect a fashion show from Tam Tam herself! We hope you’ll join us in supporting our Mom in whatever way you can right now, and know that we will be grateful for any and all support given.
With love, Ema and Ciara
