Hi, my name is Karyn. I am one of Tamara (Tammy) Miller's best friends.
I am making this Go Fund Me to help fundraise financial support for her and her family to move closer to the city, into a wheelchair-accessible home and to be able to afford the cost of home equipment to help with mobility challenges and physical restrictions.
Here is her story:
On October 9th, 2024, Tamara Miller, my best friend, was suddenly struck by a severe headache that led to her being rushed to Wetaskiwin hospital. Upon arrival, her condition worsened, and she was air-lifted to the University of Alberta Hospital's Intensive Care Unit after being diagnosed with bacterial meningitis—a rare and life-threatening infection. Despite being intubated and given a poor prognosis due to complications like brain swelling and strokes, Tamara's loved ones held onto hope, inspired by her strength and the supportive network surrounding her.
After almost 2 weeks of being in a medically induced coma, Tammy began showing signs of awareness, making eye contact and eventually communicating with those around her. She faced setbacks, including pneumonia, but her resilience shone through as she fought to recover. After 12 days, a tracheostomy was placed that eventually allowed her to breathe independently, and she gradually regained her speech.
By November 30th, she was transferred to Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, where she has made incredible strides in her recovery. Now focused on physical therapy and swallowing therapy, Tammy continues to inspire everyone with her progress, even as she requires ongoing treatment and a wheelchair-accessible home to accommodate her needs. With that being said, my main focus with this fundraiser is to continue to help her and her family gather the funds to pay bills as her husband, Taylor is home with the kids (Ages 8, 3 & 1), as well as assistance with preparation for moving closer to the city so her family can be together, mobility aids and assistive devices.
Tammy's journey is a testament to the power of hope, love, and determination. In just seven weeks, Tammy has shown what it means to fight for life and recovery, reminding us all of the strength we carry within.
We truly appreciate any and all donations.
Thank you
Karyn
