Our beloved Aunt Tammy was diagnosed with Stage 3 squamous cell carcinoma of the throat on April 1st, 2025. Since then, her life has changed drastically. She’s currently undergoing chemotherapy through UChicago Medicine and preparing for a long, intensive treatment plan that includes both daily chemotherapy and radiation.
Starting in June, Tammy will need to stay in Chicago for 5 days a week over the course of 7–8 weeks to receive this treatment. As you can imagine, the costs are adding up quickly — travel expenses, parking, tolls, lodging, and meals during her stay are a huge financial burden. On top of that, she’s facing high prescription costs, many of which aren’t fully covered by insurance.
Tammy has spent decades taking care of others, working as a waitress at our family restaurant, Michael’s Italian Resturant in downtown Elkhart. She’s known by so many for her kindness, her humor, and her incredible work ethic. She’s always gone above and beyond for everyone — now it’s our turn to go above and beyond for her and her family.
Tammy had to have a feeding tube and a port placed as a part of her treatment plan. She has lost a lot of weight, strength and stamina. Because of this, Tammy is unable to work. We’re asking for help to ease the financial stress so she can focus on healing. Every dollar helps and is deeply appreciated.
If you can’t donate, please consider sharing this page and keeping Tammy and her family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love and support.
