Tamara and her family (her 6 year old son, Malaz, and her mother, Najwa) have thankfully managed to evacuate Gaza.
However, Tamara’s family is struggling against the hostile environment against evacuees in Egypt - where access to employment and education are severely limited.
Refugees in Egypt receive zero financial support from the Egyptian government and at the same time are restricted from finding work. This leaves families in the midst of a bureaucratic void which is extremely hard to overcome, making majority of families reliant on aid and donations to survive.
Tamara’s family have also had to struggle against unfair and discriminatory treatment from landlords, including her current one which is evicting them from their flat. Tamara is currently looking for a new flat, donated funds will be used to pay for rent + deposit + brokers fee (usually rent x3). If Tamara finds an unfurnished flat which is cheaper to rent then funds will go towards furniture as well.
Funds will also go towards medical bills as Najwa, Tamara’s mother, a medical evacuee, needs regular care and check ups. Tamara also has a leg injury after surviving a bombing and needs physical therapy and regular check ups.
Funds are also needed for day to day survival- living expenses; such as food, clothing, transport.
At the same time, the rest of Tamara’s entire family remain in Gaza, a big family of 6 siblings which all have families of their own, as well as her elderly father. While Tamara struggles to support her family in Egypt she also tries her best to support her family in Gaza as they battle the war of starvation alongside the war of fire and aggression. Once Tamara’s family’s direct needs are met in Egypt, all the money remaining will be sent to Gaza.
So this fund will be used for both survival in Egypt and Gaza.
Every donation will count, especially in Egypt where the currency exchange between pounds/dollars goes much further than people realise. (E.g. £10 ~ 626 Egyptian pounds.)
Thank you for all your help and support.
If you would like to more, please feel free to get in touch.
With gratitude,
Tamara and the fundraising team.
