My name is Louise and I am helping my dear friends who are just surviving in Deir Al Balah, in central Gaza. This is Talya. She is 1 and a 1/2 years old. Her brother, Wassem is 3 years old. Her family is stuck in Deir Al Balah. They are from Gaza City.

At the beginning, in mid October their family home, situated next to Al Shifa hospital, was destroyed by Israeli bombs. Everything they had was destroyed. Their pet cats were killed or never found. Talya and her whole family, her aunts and uncles, cousins, grandparents, escaped to Rafah, to a so-called safe zone. They ended up living in tents, listening. Where they were listening to the constant sound of drones and bombs. They were cooking, cleaning, and sleeping next to thousands of other people; sanitation was getting worse, and they had to share toilets and washing with many other people. Once they heard about the invasion into Rafah, they all moved to Deir al Balah, in the center. They managed to find a building to stay in. Again, they had the constant sound of drones and bombs. They had to leave that building and go to another apartment, with only two rooms, for 19 family members.

They are still there. However, the cost of the shelter is $350 a week. They all share one toilet and bathroom. There is no electricity, running water, cooking stove, or fans. They have to use wood as their fuel, which is getting too expensive to buy. The temperature now is getting into the 40 degrees centigrade. They have no access to fans, let alone to an A.C. As there are no supplies coming into Gaza, because of the Israeli blockade, prices for everything, for surviving, has skyrocketed. Tayla's parents, aunts and uncles have spent all their money, none of them can work, as they are English teachers. Her grandmother is sick with high blood pressure and diabetes. The temperature is making her illness worse. Tayla, her brother, her mum and dad, her uncle and grandparents would like help to survive living in Gaza. They hope to be able to evacuate to Egypt once the Rafah border opens again, but they all have to pay huge costs to get into Egypt, and then set up a place once they are there. The cost of living at the moment is, $200 for chicken to feed the whole family for one meal. $100 for a kilo of tomatoes. $350 a week for their shelter. Then, they need to buy water every day. 1000L if it is available. This costs $50per day.
