Help Tali Recover from Car Break-In
Hi everybody! The car of my close friend and fellow guide at the American Alpine Institute, Tali Levin, was parked at the south side of Mount Baker during a series of smash and grabs that happened this last Monday, and was hit incredibly hard by what was stolen from her car. She had a long list of gear and personal items stored out of sight in the car at the time and lost all of it. The technical gear alone has a replacement value of around $3500, which as guides is quite literally our livelihood, and then there is all of the clothing, cookware, food, wallet contents and paperwork, and various priceless personal items that were taken on top of that. She does not have any insurance that includes coverage for theft.
She is just getting her start pursuing her long time dream of being a climbing guide and is not in a good spot to take such a heavy hit in terms of replacing everything that was stollen on her own, and while she did not want to reach out to the community I felt as though it was the right thing to do for her. While it is possible that some of her belongings could turn up in the future, she really doesn't even have the money to replace even the basics like her harness or tent, and these are items that we as guides rely on daily. She deserves so much more than simply hoping for everything to turn back up again, and it would make me happier than anything to show her how much we care as a community. Every penny can help replace something that was stolen by some asshole that had no idea how much they were screwing her over. We all make similar gambles every time we park at a trailhead with little policing and limited insurance to back us up, and I believe as climbers we can be there for eachother when the systems that are supposed to be there for us aren't. Please help us support Tali through this nightmare! Thank you so much
