Many of you know that for the last 3 years, I have been going to school and apprenticing to become a Certified Professional Midwife. I have had the absolute privilege to learn from many different midwives and to assist in close to 100 births. I am so thrilled to have found my passion and a deep love for this work. I always dreamed that I would find a path that aligned so well with my values that it would be a joy and privilege to go to work each day. Every day I get to help families fulfill their dreams and work incredibly hard through their pregnancies, labors and births to bring little ones earthside. In my own practice, I plan to make it a priority to create a safe and inclusive practice for all birthing people to be able to choose the birth that they want.
I'm so excited to be winding down my coursework and will soon be eligible to sit for the NARM exam. As I am in this last phase of school I am working on building my practice with all of the medical supplies and instruments I will need to finish my education and begin my work as a community midwife. These supplies include things like newborn resuscitation equipment, a fetal heart doppler, an inflatable birth tub, hemoglobin and blood sugar monitors, suturing supplies etc. While I won't have my own practice for a little while yet, I can put these to good use while I work on mastering the remainder of my skills in my apprenticeship.
