Growing up in Portmore, Jamaica, I was unaware of the places that faith would take me. Faith brought me to Washington, DC in 2016 to pursue my undergraduate degree in Biology at Howard University. Faith allowed me to do neuroscience research at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard after graduation and has now enabled me to begin my medical studies at Howard University College of Medicine this July.
Due to the limited availability of scholarship opportunities for international students, I have been unable to find any scholarships for which I am eligible. I have also explored the idea of taking out student loans, however, no one in my support system fits the eligibility for being a cosigner for a US loan. With the help of my mom and aunts, I was able to begin my medical school journey. However, given that my mom's sources of funding for my education are now depleted, faith now looks like creating this gofundme that will hopefully help me get the funds to complete my first year of medical school.
One of my strongest desires in life is to become a medical practitioner who helps to eliminate the health disparities that minority communities face. If you are reading this, it would mean the world to me if you could help me make this dream a reality. Even if you cannot donate, I would appreciate you sharing this with friends and family that may be able to. Every dollar and every share counts and could bring me one step closer to completing medical school.
