Help Syn Get Top Surgery

Hello friends!

My name is Kara and I'm organising this GoFundMe on behalf of someone very near and dear to my heart.

This is my long time friend Syn, a 20 year old Non-Binary queer who has been struggling with dysphoria for a very long time - especially related to their chest. Currently, they wear up to three binders to help keep their dysphoria in check, an uncomfortable and risky measure they wish they didn't have to take.

Syn is the most compassionate person I've met and has always been there for everyone they care about no matter what they're going through. Syn loves helping others so we wanted to help them out in any way we can.

They started taking hormones nearly 5 months ago, and everyone who loves Syn and knows them well has seen a dramatic change in their confidence and happiness. Of course, hormone therapy has its limitations, and unfortunately is not an alternative to top surgery.

We know that in order for Syn to feel like their true self, they'll need top surgery. However, despite months of research and saving, this process has been ridden with barriers. Syn does not have any private insurance and a lack family support to help them, and without years of waiting and thousands of dollars worth of doctors' appointments, they won't be able to get government assistance, either. Like many trans and non - binary people, if Syn is going to have access to the gender-affirming care they need, they will have to pay out of pocket.

We want to help Syn afford this surgery as soon as possible. The goal of this fundraiser is to be able to cover the surgery and any related appointments/medications not covered by the province, transportation costs to get to and from the procedure, and a fund to help cover living expenses for their recovery time, as they will not be able to work for several weeks post-op.  As Syn' chosen family we will be here as their support system through the process.
