As some of you may know, my mom, Sylvia Espino, has recently faced a devastating loss. Her barn, which she used to store antiques for her small business, was tragically destroyed in a fire. My mom is a retired deputy who has dedicated many years to serving our community, and she is known for her huge heart and unwavering willingness to help others.

Though she didn’t want me to start this GoFundMe, I believe she deserves the same kindness she has always shown to those around her. In her late 60s, she continues to work tirelessly every day to salvage what she can and gather metal to make some money to cover the unexpected expenses from this disaster.

Unfortunately, because my mom purchased this property many years ago through a quit claim deed, it was uninsurable, leaving her with no coverage for this loss. The fire chief ordered the demolition due to ongoing hazards, and the costs are overwhelming—estimated to be approximately $10,000 for demolition alone, along with an additional $3,000-$7,000 for cleanup. Although she was initially informed that the city would assist with cleanup, it turns out that was misinformation due to public works being responsible for the demolition but not cleanup.
