Help Sylvia - Medical & Living Expense -Amputation

This fundraiser is for Sylvia Nieves, who recently had a leg amputation, to raise funds for living and medical expenses.
In 1989, Sylvia was a victim of gun violence. As she was walking on the sidewalk in front of her home in New Haven, CT, two drug dealers were shooting at each other from opposite sides of the street and she got caught in the cross-fire. As a result, the femoral artery in her right leg was severed, and the doctors performed a bypass in her thigh to save her leg.
Twenty-four years later, the bypass needed to be redone. Sylvia banged the little toe on her right foot, which turned black and gangrene. The doctors realized the original bypass was no longer working and a new one had to be performed on the lower leg.
Sylvia then developed foot ulcers and a bone infection, and the doctors determined that a third bypass with Teflon (because she had no viable veins) was needed because the blood flow to the lower leg was very poor.
When Sylvia developed yet another ulcer on her foot the doctors realized the third bypass did not work and performed a fourth, again with Teflon.
When the ulcer on Sylvia's foot would not heal, the doctors carried out numerous tests and realized there was no blood flow to her right lower extremity. After attempts with medication and stents proved unsuccessful, there was no other option except amputation above the knee.
Over the course of her surgeries and medical procedures, Sylvia had to use all of her accrued time off at work, and at this point, has less than two weeks of paid time off on the books. The recovery time will be long, and possibly up to a year before she can return to work.
Our family is raising money to help with her living and medical expenses. She will also need an alternate living environment as her current colonial-style house with steps is no longer conducive to her physical needs.
Sylvia has three beautiful children, who are all very worried about her current situation and near-future living situation.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated to help Sylvia keep afloat during this difficult time and long recovery period.
