Help Sylvia Leave The South

Hello, and thank you for at least coming to check out this page. For anyone who doesn't know me personally, I am a trans woman living in the southern United States.

The pandemic, like for many people, saw my funds dwindle, which is partly why I have decided to make this gofundme at all.

The main reason I made this is because I desperately need to escape the south. I have family on the west coast, and they have generously offered to let me stay with them in Washington so I can get back on my feet.

The big hurdle is getting there.

I work, but my take home pay is crumbs. I can't afford my rent, I can barely afford my medications.

I am slowly but surely accruing more & more debt.

They pay, and opportunity, in Washington will get me out of the hole I find myself in.

Now, you might be thinking, "why fundraise to move and just fundraise to pay off your debt?"

I could do that. But then I would still make too little money in a place that will only become harsher to me as my transition continues.

It needs to be mentioned explicitly, as well: I have genuine fear living in the southern states.

Not two, maybe three, months ago, another trans woman was shot and killed in Albany, GA.

This barely made the local news, and it is just one of many such tragedies.

A week and a day ago, as of my typing these words, I was groped by a stranger while out with some of my friends. I really shouldn't have to go any further than saying if I wasn't with people I knew, it could have been worse.

I shouldn't have to be saying any of this.

The chances of my being murdered by someone, stranger or otherwise, is far higher in this region of the country.

It starts with a grope.

I am only asking for enough to cover the costs of moving; transportation, fuel, food, packing supplies, tickets home for whichever two folks I can get to help me make the drive(I would absolutely not be setting out alone).

It would mean the absolute world to me to be able to leave this place behind me, and if you are still reading this, please know that I am incredibly appreciative of just that fact.
