This is a message that was received by Sylvia’s family at the beginning of November 2021. A traumatic reminder that finding stability and shelter continues to be a lifelong journey for many. One that Sylvia and her family know too well.
Recently, some friends checked up on Sylvia. They asked her how she was and this triggered Sylvia to look at herself in the mirror and be honest about what was happening in her life. A current truth that she has been avoiding, but silently figuring out all by herself. Her family and her are in the middle of an emergency housing crisis. Sylvia has been meeting with mortgage lenders looking into ways her family could have safe and stable housing. A dream that has always been, but now a stable home is a necessity for her family.
Sylvia encourages you to take a good look at others, pay attention to them well next time you ask them the question: “How are you?”
A bit about Sylvia and her family: ever since Sylvia was born, stability has been one of the main things her and her family have been chasing. From the 17 years Sylvia, her sister Sifa, her mom, and her dad spent as refugees in East Africa, to the years after in the USA. Since Sylvia graduated from college two years ago, it has been her mission to support her family and her community to stability. This is despite dealing with the challenges that came from her father’s illness that led to his disability (Kidney failure/blindness) to facing eviction notices twice within the past two years.
It is immensely difficult for Sylvia to share all of this. Her mission for herself, her family, and her community has been to be on the other side of having stability and not always in crisis-mode.
Sylvia has chosen to put her pride aside, and let God be in control. We all have challenges we deal with, why deal with them in silence while living in community. Here is to Sylvia being vulnerable and sharing her current housing challenge her family is facing and for choosing to share it with community.
Please join in and support Sylvia as she tries to find “stability” for her family, by embarking on the journey of purchasing a home for her family.
Any financial support given here will go towards a downpayment for a mortgage that Sylvia will use to purchase a home for her family.
Blessings and Peace.
