Hi everyone,
I’m creating this GoFundMe during one of the most overwhelming moments of my life. Right now, it’s just me and my dog, Sydney, and I’m asking for a little help during a really difficult time.
On Thursday, January 15, Sydney accidentally ate half a pack of sugar-free gum containing xylitol, which is extremely toxic to dogs. I rushed her to the emergency vet immediately. While arriving, she began having seizure due to her blood sugar dropping dangerously low.
Sydney was hospitalized for intensive monitoring because xylitol poisoning can cause severe hypoglycemia and delayed liver damage. The following hours and days were critical as the veterinary team closely monitored her blood sugar and liver values. Thankfully, her blood sugar stabilized and her liver values began trending in the right direction, allowing her to come home. She is currently eating, stable, and continuing to recover under close observation.
If you know Sydney, you know she is my world. She’s my constant companion and my emotional support. Right now, dog dad is deployed, and I don’t have family here in California. Navigating this situation alone, emotionally and financially, has been incredibly hard.
The total cost of Sydney’s emergency care came to $6,489.51. I did not hesitate to approve her treatment because her life mattered more than anything. However, the financial impact has been overwhelming.
I’m not asking for much, anything helps, whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this fundraiser. Every bit of support helps relieve some of the burden so I can focus on Sydney’s recovery and getting us back to some sense of normalcy.
Thank you so much for reading, supporting, and keeping Sydney in your thoughts. It truly means more than I can say.
Gabriela Idrovo + Sydney, the bean.
