Who is Sydney?
Sydney started her year just as any five year old girl should -- going to kindergarten, loving everything Frozen, lightening a room on fire with her infectious smile and playing with her sisters and her friends. This petite firecracker will NOT let cancer get the best of her - despite how ill she feels from the side effects from chemo or radiation #SydneyStrong.
Background
April 2021, this brave little girl was given the diagnosis of a Stage 3 Wilm's tumor. Two days after the diagnosis, Sydney underwent a nephrectomy (removal of the affected kidney) and tumor removal. The oncology team came up with a plan for radiation and chemo, which will consume the majority of 2021. Even through the aggressive treatment, Sydney still has a way with winning her healthcare teams hearts, striving to attend kindergarten "to see her friends" and just trying to live her life through the eyes of a five year old child. You can see from her pic with her "thumbs up" she toughs it out and manages to smile. Again, #SydneyStrong.
What is a Wilm's tumor?
Wilms' tumor is a rare kidney cancer that primarily affects children. Also known as nephroblastoma, it's the most common cancer of the kidneys in children. Wilms' tumor most often affects children ages 3 to 4 and becomes much less common after age 5.
Why donate?
Despite her family's healthcare insurance, there is still a large deductible amount, parking fees, weekly chemo appointments, medical appointments along with major changes to mom and dad's work schedules. #SydneyStrong
Please keep Sydney, her family and her healthcare team in your daily thoughts. Any donations to help with associated medical costs and her care would be greatly appreciated. Every dollar counts.

I am Pamela Hetrick, from the east side of Cleveland who is serving as the organizer for this fund raiser for Sydney Phoeson. Sydney is the daughter of my coworker (Britne) and a family friend. The funds will be used for as stated above (medical bills related to the diagnosis and treatment and any pertinent follow up for Sydney as related to her Wilms’ tumor treatment). There is also associated costs of transportation and parking at a large academic institution. The family has experienced a change in work schedules from the intensive month of the diagnosis, surgery, radiation and chemotherapy appointments. All funds collected will be given directly to this family during this very stressful time - the funds are to be deposited into my account and dollar for dollar donated will be directly given in Sydney's name.
