Help Sydelle Pay College Tuition

Hello everyone! My name is Sydelle and I am fundraising for tuition costs and fees.

Currently, I am a student at Temple University pursuing both my bachelor and masters degree. Next spring I plan to graduate with a bachelor degree in Human Development and Community Engagement with a concentration in Nonprofit Management and Social Entrepreneurship. In Spring 2024, I will graduate with masters degree in Advocacy and Organizational Development.

At the young age of 8, I relocated to America from Trinidad and Tobago. As a senior in high school, I learned of my status and life as I knew it changed forever. My journey in higher education as an undocumented student has been difficult. Although I worked diligently to get my high school diploma maintaining a high GPA it meant nothing compared to my immigration status. My journey to college temporarily ended before it even began due to finances. Tired of feeling sorry for myself, I decided to make changes. Through self-advocacy I was accepted into Community College and though it took me six years, I graduated in 2020 with high honors. I quickly learned that undocumented students can not receive financial aid and there are very little scholarships that I could apply for. I decided to go to school part time so that I could work and pay for school out of pocket. Even with that fact, I was determined to graduate and continue my education.

Now at Temple, I am considered an international student and pay twice the in state tuition rate. This has caused hurdles in my journey. Today, I am living my wildest dreams and I hope that my financial situation does not end this dream. I turn to my community for help. Pursuing my degree means the world to me. After graduation I plan to work in the nonprofit sector working with the Black immigrant community to provide services and resources back into my community.
