Help Syde Smalls and Her Family Rebuild Their Life

Syde is one of the most genuine people you'll ever meet. There is not a moment that I haven't seen a smile on her face or a hand reaching out to help. Working as a paraprofessional at 277q@404 for over eight years, a special needs High School in Queens, many would say she is the heartbeat of the school. When they say Jack-of-all-trades, they are referring to Syde. She is also responsible for our beloved Camo, the Comfort Dog at 277q, who brings so much joy into the workplace for staff and students alike. Without Syde (and Camo), we would be lost.

Yesterday, a disastrous fire ripped through Syde and her family's home. Thankfully everyone in the house was able to escape, including Syde's parents, brother, Great Aunt, Camo, and her cat Pepper.  The fire quickly escalated from the basement, and took everything in its path. Other than some clothes they were able to grab on the way out of their home, they are left with nothing. Forced to uproot their lives in the blink of the eye, Syde and her family need our help.

They will be staying in a hotel for the time being. The fire took nearly all their clothes, food and personal belongings. Syde's family was taking care of her Great Aunt, whom had special needs, and lost all of her medical equipment. Unsure of what will be covered by insurance, I am asking for your help to deal with upfront costs. These costs will include lodging, clothes, food, medical equipment, and so much more that was lost in the fire.

Syde is a very private person and would never ask for money or a favor from anyone. So, I ask you to please respect her and her family's privacy for the time being. Syde will be directly withdrawing any and all funds donated from GOFUNDME and using it for rebuilding her family's life.
