Syanne's Village: support journey for T-Cells and immunity
Donation protected
Our beautiful girl, Syanne Arabella Dominique Landron, was born on August 21st, 2024. Her momma was a rockstar holding down the home and birth while dad was away in military service with the Navy. Big brother, Dean, is excited about his new title and has been preparing by helping mom with household duties and getting his new little sister’s “oh so little” clothes put away. She was released from the hospital to go home the day after she entered the world and all appeared well. However, a few days later, the family received a call that Syanne’s newborn blood panel had been flagged and that she needed to be seen at UCLA medical center first thing the following morning. Additional tests were done and it was determined that she has no T cells which means that her immune system is not protecting her. The family is awaiting further test results to determine next steps. Per the medical team, the current two potential causes are 1.) SCID: Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (which means a potential for bone marrow transplant)or 2.) she is missing her thymus gland (which means a potential need for heart surgery and thymus transplant). Both are very rare and have less than 70 cases in the US and Canada a year. But we are thankful that Syanne is receiving care from UCLA and the family has felt the medical team’s support and compassion over past few days. We will not know the exact plan of action until we get her follow up test results which could take a few weeks. In the meantime, Syanne and mom are required to be in complete housing isolation because any potential virus or infection could complicate things even more. Dean is being loved by his family and will hopefully be able to join in their isolation. With the support of the medical staff and Red Cross, a message was shared with dad’s command and he is currently in the process of returning locally to isolate for the 14 days so that he can be reunited with his wife and meet his new baby girl. Syanne is surrounded in love by a village of aunties, uncles, cousins, grandparents, friends, and more and we are asking for support to help mom (Marilyn), Dad (Alex), and Brother (Dean) as they begin to navigate this journey of unknowns. These unknowns include their needs associated with isolation(from each other, school, work, and family), medical (for special formula needed, potential treatment for Syanne & Dean, etc), travel (for dad to and from his base station and for the family to and from UCLA and potential other medical facilities in the months ahead), and any other possible needs that may arise that we may not foresee for them at this time.
Syanne’s family believes in the power of prayer and is thankful for prayers received and mom has asked to be included in prayer chains.
For transparency purposes, Gofundme has reached out to me (Danielle) to request that I provide clarification on this update regarding a few things. Therefore, for those of you that may not know, I am Syanne's maternal grandmother (Marilyn's mom). All money raised from this Gofundme will be utilized by Marilyn and Alex as they see fit to meet their unexpected needs that arise from this medical journey. For example, travel to and from the medical appointments, medications, housing costs (due to their loss of an income), and formula (they are needing to purchase single use formula for travel days). We currently have the funds being transferred into my account so that I can purchase items as the family needs arise and deliver them. Marilyn has access to the Gofundme and she and Alex will continue to have full say of how the funds are spent.
