BIO: I am a final student at Kampala film school pursuing my bachelors in filmmaking. I am an award winner in 2022 from the Uganda film festival where my short documentary "Ghetto fist " won best student film. I am passionate about teaching other people my learnt skills and telling real stories.
TITLE: Not my daughter.
LOGLINE: With failure to fight, you are carried away into marriage.
SYNOPSIS: In the region of Mbale village where mountain Elgon resides, there are a series of interesting sites. In the slopes lives a community that treasures old traditions and this is where we are introduced to our story. KHANA a 16yr old is surprisingly carried away by MUKHWASI 30yrs on her way to the river to fetch water. This automatically makes her his wife as she fails to fight him on releasing him.
This doesn't settle well with Khana's parents especially her father who promises to go and bring her daughter back. Nambozo (Khana's) mother then reminds her husband that tradition is to be respected as she was also married the same way and violation of it may lead to excommunication from the community.
After a year, Khana gives birth to twins, a boy (MASABA) and a girl (WANYENYA). So in love with his baby girl, Mukhwasi trains her how to fight from a young age so that she is not easily carried away by any man. A series of events unfold as Wanyenya matures into a teenager with her father as her trainer. He ends up ignoring Masaba who also at the age of 18 has to undergo the community male circumcision and officially be recognised as a man in the community. During circumcision if the boy cries he is regarded as a woman and no girl will be interested in marrying him. Wanyenya is tested on different accounts to be carried away but she is strong enough to defend herself. Until one day when she is caught by surprise Infront of her house.
