Hi, friends. On September 6th, our sweet Zion was on his way home from the grocery store with his friends, ready to barbecue, when they ran into a drunk man coming out of a bar. The man proceeded to harass Zion and his friends, and as he was trying to run away, Z was shot twice in the eyes. Along with the trauma of being a victim of gun violence, Zion is now faced with the reality of losing his right eye as well as a lifetime of partial to full blindness.
Although we believe in miracles, he is going to need a lot of support as neither he nor his mother Charmaine will be able to work as he recuperates and heals. Zion had recently started working as a painter, was supporting himself financially and always pushing himself in his passion for skateboarding. He was so proud of finally being independent!
Let’s support him in continuing to be as independent as possible! He has a long road of recovery ahead of him, and his devoted mother, with her devoted community behind her, will be working hard to make sure he has everything he needs to thrive.
Prayers are welcome! We pray that his vision returns! If you have any connections to church groups, please ask Zion and Charmaine to be added to their prayers. Their faith in prayer is strong, so this is endlessly appreciated!
If you can’t send money, send a meal or whatever you are able! We will update this link with information for donating meals shortly. Along with financial support, we want to surround Zion and Charmaine with love and light.
