Winnie is my 10 year old tabby cat who is struggling with hyperthyroidism. Last year, we found out because we were concern about her losing weight. She went from 10lbs to 5 lbs. When you pet her you can feel her spine and ribs from how skinny she has gotten. She lost so much muscle that she was not able to jump from the floor to the couch and would constantly fall. We put her on methimazole which controlled her thyroid level but the side effects made her extremely itchy that she would scratch and bite until she was bleeding all over. We then switched her over to a prescription diet. It helped her gain weight but her thyroid level went back up and now the vets are concerned about her liver and kidneys. Our last option is to do a radiation treatment for her thyroid. The vet is estimating the cost for treatment and care to be $3-5k. This is our last hope for our sweet Winnie.
