Help Sweet Walter

This sweet senior pup was found wandering the streets of Murrietta with no collar, no microchip, and no name. Efforts with signs, social media posts, and contacting all “lost dog” avenues were fruitless in locating an owner.
The moment I saw his kind eyes and (let’s face it, unfortunate-looking face), I knew I needed to help but didn’t know how. I spoke with the nice family who had found him, and they were doing their best- but with two young kids with allergies, and no time for a dog, he was having to stay/sleep outside.
I went to meet “Pumpkin” at a park and brought Rylie to make sure she wouldn’t drive this poor old dog nuts , and I was amazed at how gentle and lovely their interaction was. I also noticed this little senior dog was bleeding on one side of his mouth, and from my experience I knew he was in desperate need of dental care.
I slept/prayed on it, discussed with trusted friends about what to do, and for once in my life, actually took time to make a decision.
*fast forward to Friday last week*
I met the family who found Pumpkin in the parking lot of my vet to take him from them, and I decided to call him fittingly, “Walter”.
First on the agenda was getting him checked for any communicable cooties before taking him home to my Weens, and after an exam, antibiotics, and blood work, he was giving a pretty good bill of health, aside from his decayed teeth and painful mouth (and also 12+ years old and a little rickety ). I brought him home, and he was fast to cruise around and make himself comfortable- it amazed me how a dog that had been dumped and lost wasn’t the least bit shy or timid, especially around other dogs! He’s a very special guy indeed.
This is the difficult part.
Walter is in pain. Even touching his mouth gently, he winces. In addition, with all of that infection going on with the decayed teeth and fistula (infection breaching up into his sinus) he’s got to feel really cruddy. Despite the discomfort, Walter is such a sweet, loving, and happy guy- so chill and loves being around people. He’s been following me around like a shadow and now gets special soft food (and anything that falls while I’m cooking).
I could not fathom how someone could dump him, but with the cost of his extensive dental needs, I suppose they unfortunately felt that was their only option.
Here is where YOU come in!❤️
This is not easy for me, but know I need to ask for help. My goal is to give this sweet guy a comfortable and healthy rest of his life by getting him the healthcare he so desperately needs and then finding him a FUREVER home, and that is unfortunately very expensive. I have included the estimate for his dental treatment, and am hoping this goofy-faced, sweet-hearted dog can live the life he deserves, happy and pain-free. ☺️
I have attached the estimate as well at the receipt from his initial appt. and some photos because he’s really cute.
(I couldn’t figure out how to properly crop/attach the pics and estimate files, and I am happy to send to you directly!)
