Help sweet senior Jill with her dental health!!
Donation protected
Hello friends!
Today I am asking for your assistance in raising funds for my senior dog Jill. Now that we know she is CANCER FREE (we're still happy dancing from this news!) we can safely move forward. Jill has a much needed, major dental procedure coming up on November 8th! It is a full dental cleaning, xrays and possible extraction for an important tooth. Unfortunately the tooth in question is the largest and most complex tooth in the canine mouth, the carnassial, her lower left carnassial to be exact. Extracting it is very difficult (it has thee roots) and in addition she does not have many teeth left so our hope is to save it. In small dogs, due to the size/structure of their mouth, often the long roots of the lower carnassial tooth reach into the lower mandible and if you try to extract it, it can shatter the jaw. We are going to do everything in our power to save the tooth, unfortunately we won’t have a definite answer if it can be saved until she’s under anesthesia and has X-rays done. Right now our doctor is confident the tooth can be saved with cleaning, scaling and inserting doxirobe gel into the pocket, but again nothing is certain until we see X-rays, and those will be done on the day of the dental cleaning to save her from having to undergo anesthesia multiple times.
Jill was diagnosed with periodontal disease when she was a puppy, she is genetically predisposed to have it. For 12 years we have brushed teeth once a week plus have dental treats, but these things only go so far. She has had regular teeth cleanings throughout her life but despite this she has needed 26 of her 42 teeth extracted. We are no strangers to extractions but it does not make it any easier. I am trying to stay calm and strong but the truth is I am extremely frightened. The last time Jill had a dental extraction (February 2023) she almost died a few days later due to an adverse reaction to the post op medication. Our doctor and I discussed at length our options for post op pain management and she will NOT be exposed to that medication again. I feel confident that she is safe and getting the best treatment possible. I am still scared, but her overall heath will only deteriorate if this tooth is not addressed as soon as possible.
It is not easy nor fun to ask for help but I am determined to do whatever necessary to give her the best long term health and happiness, and this is vital to that process. WE DO HAVE PET INSURANCE!! We've had it her whole life. Our pet insurance will not cover any of these expenses for Jill - her periodontal disease is considered a pre-existing condition and thus denied coverage. 2024 has been the most expensive vet bills in my 17 years of being a dog mom. Allergies, multiple emergency vet visits, paw injuries, my other pup Captain Jack’s spina bifida bubble leaking, medical and first aid supplies, diapers, physical therapy, specialty physios…these pups are worth everything and more, but it’s been a really tough year and out of pocket costs have surpassed $16,000. So here I am hoping, asking for help to raise funds for Jill’s dental expenses.
This little mighty warrior has overcome SO MUCH in her 12 years of life and she has been at my side through victories, failures, injuries and so much more. She was temporarily paralyzed for several months due to IVDD and we overcame that. She had a huge cancer scare and we beat that!! Please, please consider a small contribution to help use reach our goal. Any words of encouragement or sharing of this fundraiser would also be a HUGE help! Anything and everything is appreciated!
I have posted our estimate from our vet for Jill's procedure, the cost ranges from $812.33 - $1023.32. If the tooth's roots do reach into her mandible, the surgery will get more complex and more expensive. I will not know the updated cost until Jill is under anesthesia and has xrays, then the doctor will call me to discuss. I have already taken Novmeber 8th off work to be available for this call and to care for her once she is allowed to come home.
Additionally, Captain Jack Sparrow, Jill's little/big brother, needs a new set of custom made stirrups for his wheelchair. He is paralyzed in his rear due to Spina Bifida and he requires a custom made wheelchair and stirrups to support his unique legs so he can get around. I have already purchased 3 sets for him in 2024 but we hike weekly and walk 4 miles daily and his stirrups wear out. HE CANNOT USE HIS WHEELCHAIR WITHOUT STIRRUPS! The cost for stirrups is $50 and shipping is $7, I have included the estimate from Eddie's Wheels for this.
The goal for this fundraiser is set at $1081 and reflects the combination of the two estimates, the high end for the dental (1023.32) and the new stirrups ($57).
Thank you for reading and rolling with us. These two dogs are my entire world and I work very hard everyday to give them the best life possible, they deserve it and more. All three of us recognize how blessed we are to have each other and our friends, our family, you! I will post updates here as well as our IG @pnw_captain_jack. If you cannot donate at this time please consider giving this fundraiser a share, or possibly consider our Amazon Wishlist where you could send us some supplies.
Thankyou from the bottom of our hearts and paws.
With love and gratitude,
