Hi my name is Amy, and I've spent my life rescuing animals. This situation is no different, with the exception of the highest vet bills I've ever had to deal with. It was at this point that I realized I needed help with funds to be able to continue to help this sweet girl!
Sweet Pea's Story
By God's beautiful design, I crossed paths with Sweet Pea who was badly injured when I rescued her on 8/2/21. She was unable to eat, had many feathers ripped off of her, could not open one eye, and had various wounds on her body (all likely from an attack from a predator). She was clearly going to die if she did not get help. I could not leave this little girl to that fate! She deserved a chance!
I immediately took her to the closest vet I could where she was misdiagnosed. I then had to take her to an emergency vet who more commonly worked with birds and diagnosed her properly... she could not eat because she had a broken jaw, and therefore would have starved to death! (below are the CT scans of her broken jaw).
From there I had to get her to a skilled avian (bird) veterinarian who could better handle her injuries. She is now with Medical Center for Birds in Oakley, CA where she is getting the care she needs in order to get healed and back to being able to eat on her own. She just had a surgery to repair her jaw. Pins have been inserted into her jaw bone and a stabilizing bar has been connected to the pins (as you can see in photos below).
Costs
As you can imagine the bills have been adding up!! So far it has cost $3,701.22, and Sweet Pea still needs to be in the care of the medical center until she heals and can eat on her own, which may take days and will cost even more. She will also need ongoing medications (pain meds, antibiotics, and anti-inflammatory meds).
Please help me give Sweet Pea the chance she deserves. I have started this Go Fund Me account to ease the burden of some of the expenses. I would be so grateful for any amount that you can donate to help me help this little one! Please also help by getting the word out, you can share the link to your Facebook Timeline! Sharing is caring, so thank you for sharing this fundraiser with family and friends through social media, email, or text: http://www.gofundme.com/f/help-sweet-pea-eat-again
With gratitude,
Amy
