Hi, this is Picazón she was living in a parking lot and her broken tail is necrotic and needs amputation!
We met her while staying in Puerto Rico for two months. A group of clipped ferals live on the street and we began feeding them as here it's a community effort to keep them all healthy. Pica was very underweight and had a skin condition.
Right as she gained weight on our wet food she dissappeared. For five days I feared the worst.
Suddenly she ran over and started eating again. I was terrified as her tail was completely limp and she was skin and bones. Her skin was much worse and she was missing patches.
It took a week of feeding her for her to feel well enough to come near us and we were able to get her in a carrier.
The first appointment and meds cost us $300. The amputation will be around 400 because we also need an xray to make sure the damage isn't worse than we think.
We've already spent a lot of money on her carrier, food, and various supplies (paper towels, cleaners, a low movement toy for boredom, pee pads).
Her tail is necrotic and hanging there so she needs pain meds 2x a day and is terrified. She was treated for worms and fleas.
In the immediate we need cleaning supplies, litter, dry food and high smell wet food (salmon pouches) to give her gabapentin with.
She's the sweetest cat, and I have to try for her even though I hate putting myself out there like this. We are fostering her to see if she can be saved.
Bringing her back to the states with us will cost another $175 so that she may find a home to live out her days indoors and safe from cars.
Every rescue and humane society has rejected her due to lack of resources. We were recommended surrender to animal control for euthanasia. But she's not at that point physically and already survived the worst part of her injury.
