Sweet Bruno should not be alive today.

He was found as a starving street dog in the small town of Progreso, Yucatan, Mexico, alone, suffering, and unable to walk. His right back femur was broken, and without help, he would have died—slowly and painfully from starvation.

But Bruno’s story didn’t end there.

He was rescued just in time and brought to a local vet, where his leg was set. Sadly, it didn’t heal properly. Despite everything, Bruno remained what he is at his core: gentle, trusting, and full of love.

That’s when Gagne Homestead and Rescue in Almonte, Ontario stepped in and reached out to Mexico to offer Bruno a place in their rescue and an opportunity to have a healthy and loving life in Canada.

They saw something special in Bruno and committed to giving him a real chance.

Once he was stable enough to travel, a kind volunteer “flight angel” brought Bruno to Montreal, where Jeff Gagne drove to meet Sweet Bruno and his amazing Flight Angel at arrivals at the airport and bring him safely into their care.

But shortly after arriving, the unthinkable happened—his leg broke again.

At that moment, Gagne Rescue had a choice.

They could have chosen a less expensive option… or even walked away.

Instead, they chose Bruno.

They made the decision to give him the best possible outcome—a complex orthopedic surgery costing $5,300.

And it worked.

Today, Bruno is healing beautifully. After three months in a loving foster home and being overseen by Gagne Homestead and Rescue, he is finally getting ready for the life he has always deserved—a forever home. He is now available for adoption.

Through pain, hunger, abandonment, and multiple transitions in such a short life, Bruno has never lost his spirit. He is still incredibly sweet, affectionate, and trusting.
