Hello, my name is Heather. I’m a college student, and I want to share the story of a very special girl named Bellatrix, or Bella for short. Bella is a sweet German Shepherd I rescued when she was in desperate need. About three months ago, she was chained up in a backyard, without proper medical care or the basics like shelter, food, and water. Watching her suffering was heartbreaking, but since then, I’ve been doing everything I can to help her heal. She’s received vet care, gained some weight, and is currently being treated for intestinal parasites, a high white blood cell count, and heartworm—conditions she was diagnosed with after rescue.

Bella has a lot of behavioral challenges, which stem from her past trauma. She’s very protective of me and her favorite toys and treats, sometimes burying them in the yard as a form of security. She’s had moments of fear that have led her to nip at friends and even break skin, and she can be wary of new people, putting her teeth on others when she feels threatened. She’s also extremely destructive—chewing on rugs, furniture, pillows, water dishes—and I can see she’s scared and anxious about the world around her. That’s why I am reaching out for help today.

Despite my efforts—going on multiple walks daily, running miles, hiking for hours—Bella needs professional support to truly thrive. Balancing school, work, and caring for three cats makes it hard to give her all she needs. I’ve found a compassionate trainer who’s offering six personal sessions, four weeks of board and train, plus group classes—yet, the cost is $5,000. My hope is for Bella to have the brightest future possible, whether with me or in a caring, loving forever home. Everyone I’ve spoken with—including my vet—agrees that professional behavioral training is her best chance at a happy, stable life.
