Hi everyone,
For those of you that don’t know Sven, he is my baby. He is almost two years old, and he has cerebellar hypoplasia which makes him wobbly and unstable, but he is overall a happy boy and has had a very good quality of life so far.
This is not news that’s easy for me to share. Over the past 24 hours, Sven has had 4-5 seizures. As far as I know, he has never had one in the past and this is new. I brought him to the emergency room last night where he was hospitalized and started on seizure medications but he continued to seize this morning. He is currently stable and doesnt seem to have any new neurological deficits, and he was transferred to the neurology department at Pieper Memorial Veterinary Clinic.
The neurologist recommended further diagnostics to understand what is causing the seizures. Cerebellar hypoplasia does not in itself cause seizures. However it’s possible that due to his wobbliness he may have experienced head trauma that could have caused them OR what we’ve been calling CH has actually been a neurological condition that is now progressing.
Tomorrow morning he will have an MRI, which is very expensive and requires anesthesia and a lot of specialty care. So far, I have spent $1200 on the hospitalization alone and the MRI will likely be another $3000-4000, plus the treatment for whatever is found. I’m hoping for good news and that this can be managed with seizure medication, and won’t affect his quality of life but right now I just don’t know.
I will spend whatever I have to on Sven, I love him more than anything in the world. I’m asking for help because I know he has a lot of people all over the world who also love him. I hate asking for help. Please don’t feel obligated to donate, but anything, even $1 will help me help Svenny get the care he needs. You can also call Pieper directly to donate to his care.
