Help Suzi Fight Stage 4 Breast Cancer & Access Life-Extending Trials in California!
Hello, friends, family, and compassionate supporters! I'm Rich Lickfield, and my amazing wife Suzi—my high school sweetheart and partner through thick and thin—is battling stage 4 metastatic breast cancer with incredible strength. We've built a wonderful life in Altmar, NY, where we found our dream home to retire to. Our children, grandkids and family and friends are helping create the memories that keep us going.
Suzi first beat breast cancer in 2018 with chemo, surgery, and radiation—she even sported a fun Mohawk to lift spirits (check the video below!). But after losing her sister Rosie to a recurrence in 2022, the cancer returned aggressively. It's incurable, but we're not giving up. Treatments are slowing it down, strengthening her bones, and managing pain, while homeopathic supplements provide extra support.
Now, there's real hope: Suzi's being considered for a cutting-edge clinical trial at the Chan Soon-Shiong Institute for Medicine in California! Their state-of-the-art immunotherapy boosts T cells—natural cancer killers—to potentially add years to her life. If accepted, she'll fly out weekly for up to a year, but that means added costs for flights, lodging, and travel on top of meds, supplements, copays, mortgage, taxes, and keeping our dream home afloat while she's off work and our seasonal business winds down.
Suzi's too proud to ask, but after decades of hard work and giving to others, she needs our village now more than ever. Your donations will cover these new travel expenses, medical bills, and daily needs so we can focus on fighting—and making more joyful moments. Every $5, $20, or more brings us closer. Thank you for your kindness; let's give Suzi the chance she deserves!
This was an emotional moment for her, but she laughed for her granddaughters who were there encouraging their Nana on.
We celebrated her defeat of breast cancer and put it in the past.
Soon after this, her younger sister Rosie, who also had beaten cancer, found that her cancer returned and metastasized. After a brave second battle with cancer, we lost Rosie the week before Christmas in 2022.
(Rosie is sitting on Suzi's lap. Suzi had broken her ankle a couple of months before this fundraiser for Rosie's medical bills)
