I was diagnosed with non uremic calciphylaxis, a rare and painful condition that has turned my life upside down. For months, I have had wounds on my legs that simply would not heal, no matter what treatments I tried. The pain has been constant and overwhelming, and it took a long time for doctors to finally discover the cause. Recently, I underwent surgery to debride the wounds and received skin grafts, hoping that this would finally help them heal. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this condition, but there is hope for remission, and I am holding onto that hope every day.

Because of my diagnosis, I am unable to work. I am currently going through IV infusions called Sodium thiosulfate, which are meant to help remove the calcium from my body. My doctors are working to get approval so I can continue these infusions and place a port, since a PICC line was placed only temporarily. I am also trying to get hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which has been found to help wounds heal faster. These treatments are exhausting, and the costs are adding up quickly. I need to continue paying for my health insurance and regular doctor appointments, and now I also need to travel to Boston to see a specialist who may be able to help me. The financial burden is more than I can handle alone, and it has been incredibly stressful on top of everything else I am facing.
