Dear friends and family,
We are reaching out to you for help in purchasing a new power chair for our beloved mother, Susie. As many of you know, Susie has been battling Multiple Sclerosis for years now, but she has always maintained a positive attitude and a love for life. Despite the challenges that come with this debilitating disease, she has managed to keep her independence and her joy for the things she loves most.
About 1.5 years ago, Susie's power chair broke down, and it has had a huge impact on her ability to do the things she loves. She depends on this chair to get outdoors to the garden or a trip to the store, attend appointments within the facility, and even maneuver around her own room to do puzzles, tidy her drawers or to the bathroom to brush her teeth! When her chair broke down, we immediately started looking at funding options to repair or buy a new chair, but we were told that she does not qualify for funding because she lives in a care facility and it is not a necessity.
We appealed the decision, as we believe that the power chair has had a huge impact on her mental and emotional well-being. Susie is well taken care of, but we all know the staff shortages and how they affect our loved ones. She has been stranded in the dining room for extended periods, or stuck in her room on beautiful summer days only to sit at the window and hope to be outside. The frustration of being within arms reach of a puzzle or the TV remote or some other activity she wants to perform has left her feeling defeated many times.
Unfortunately, Susie was denied again, which is why we are turning to you for help. We have been working with her occupational therapist and have had her fitted for a new chair. The cost of this chair will be $20,000. We know this is a large sum of money, but any contribution you can make, no matter how small, will help us get closer to our goal and give Susie the gift of freedom and independence once again.
Susie loves hummingbirds, horses, and the outdoors. She also loves her family and friends and a good social gathering. If you have had the pleasure of knowing her, you are also aware of her love for laughter and joke telling. We want to see her smile and be happy again, doing the things she loves.
Please consider making a donation to our GoFundMe page and share it with your network. Your support means the world to us and will make a huge difference in Susie's life. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
