Help Susie Recover After Emergency Intestinal Surgery

Hi everyone,
We never imagined we would be here, but our family is facing an unexpected medical crisis and could really use support.

If you know mom- you know she’s the most happy go lucky person who always goes out of her way to help anyone and everyone. For a living she cleans houses and business’ on top of watching her 3 grandchildren every day which is her absolute pride and joy. Unfortunately- mom’s health took a significant unexpected turn the last few weeks and she has been unable to work or babysit the kids for us.

Our mom, Susie, recently became very ill on 1/18 with what we thought was the stomach flu. After 3 days of persistent vomiting, weakness, and stomach pain, we took her to a local hospital who sent her home within a few short hours diagnosing her with a UTI and oral antibiotics. I had to beg the doctor just to give her fluids and draw her blood. There was no physical exam,CT scan, or follow up on the abnormal labs. That night she was unable to tolerate the oral antibiotics and her symptoms worsened so we took her for a second opinion the next day which revealed acute cholecystitis requiring emergency surgery. The surgery was very extensive and not your typical gallbladder surgery. It took the surgeon over an hour to even locate her gallbladder due to the amount of inflammation and distorted anatomy. He wasn’t able to remove the full gallbladder because risks outweighed the benefits so did a partial then the following day had to have a stent to her biliary duct and a JP drain placed.
Mom was discharged 1/27 with a drain to monitor output. On 1/30- the drain appeared to be clogged and wasn’t functioning so her surgeon saw her in office immediately and did a CT scan which then revealed a post op complication- a bowel leak. She was high risk for sepsis. Once again- mom was sent for emergency surgery right away.

Shes still in the hospital but is now recovering with a feeding tube, drain, and a wound to pack. We have no idea what the next few weeks or even months are going to hold but we know she has a long road ahead.

Because of this complication:
• Her hospital stay has been extended
• She will be unable to work or help care for her grandchildren for weeks to months
• Our family is facing mounting medical bills, travel costs, and lost income
• Her recovery will require close monitoring, follow-up care, and significant rest

This has been overwhelming….physically, emotionally, and financially especially since it all happened so suddenly.

We are starting this GoFundMe to help cover:

• Medications and supplies
• Travel and gas for her follow up care
• Lost wages and basic living expenses during recovery

Thankfully- she has health insurance however she doesn’t have short term disability or PTO time or any other assistance and will be facing extensive medical bills.

If you are able to donate, we are deeply grateful. If you can’t, please consider sharing or keeping her in your prayers. Every bit of support means more than we can put into words.

Thank you for loving and supporting our family during this incredibly hard time.
