Help Susie Appeal the Hideous Gorge Hotel Proposal

Hi, my name is Susie.

My family and I have spent 18 years building a home and a successful business in Launceston, but all this is under threat from a company that wants to put profits before people.

The Launceston City Council has recently approved an almost 40-metre high hotel near where my family lives and works.

This will cause our home to be overshadowed most of the day. It will render our solar system and battery backup useless, and increase mold and damp, exacerbating health issues for our children who have asthma.

My elderly father-in-law, who has a health condition similar to Parkinson's, will have limited access to sunlight during the day.

But this is not just about us. This is about the character of our beautiful city that many of us have come to know and love.

The Resource Management and Planning Appeals Tribunal already found that this development is not compatible with the streetscape and character of the area. Allowing the Gorge Hotel to go ahead will set a worrying precedent that more high-rise buildings could spring up in a part of our city that values built heritage and green open spaces.

I am asking for your help to defend what keeps Launceston special. Appeals like this are expensive as they require the help of expert legal and planning advice. We are up against a multi-million-dollar enterprise and we cannot do this alone.

We won our case in the Tribunal the first time the hotel was approved. If we can beat them once then we can beat them again.
