This is Susan Urban of February Sky and the Bittersweet Christmas Band. To make a long story short, I had botched cataract surgery in 2023 (no, there are no law firms willing to sue the original doctor). Basically, the pupil in my left eye was "nicked," letting in way too much light and making it very difficult to see. In addition, a subsequent laser procedure knocked the original lens that was placed in the eye out of position. One subsequent surgery attempted to repair the iris of the injured eye; it was unsuccessful. Another surgery removed the original lens and sewed in a new one. This surgery was successful, but each successive surgery (including the original one) has resulted in more damage to the cornea of the left eye. Now I have only about 25% vision in the damaged eye. The differing vision in the two eyes is something my brain cannot interpret well, which makes it hard for me to walk without getting dizzy. I currently have to use a rollator to be able to walk without falling. To correct this, I need to have a cornea cell transplant. Insurance will cover the procedure, but not the materials the doctor needs to use to make the transplant. The charge for those will come to about $4,900. Phil and I don't have this kind of money lying around, so we are reaching out for help.
We know these are tough times, so we ask on a "no pressure, no guilt" basis, but any help you can give will be appreciated more than we can begin to express.
