Susan and Tony need our help. On Monday July 13, Susan was admitted to the hospital for emergency surgery. Her kidneys were failing and she suffered a major heart attack.
Susan’s doctors performed surgery to support her heart while placing a port for dialysis. During a week in hospital, she received her first dialysis treatments, which were hard on her heart but necessary for survival.
Susan is now facing ongoing dialysis, anemia requiring regular blood transfusions, and heart failure managed by medication. Her situation is still precarious and the medical bills are piling up. This past year alone, Susan has had 7 hospitalizations related to complications with her kidneys.
Tony is now the sole breadwinner for their household.
Our first goal is to raise $16,000 to cover short-term urgent expenses
Why the Goal is Critical
Susan and Tony have always given back to their community. Susan is an ordained minister and runs a small therapy practice. Her earliest work was with HIV+ patients in NYC, at the start of the AIDS crisis.
Tony is a writing coach and book editor who dedicates much of his time to pro bono work with low income, older, and LGBTQ+ people.
Tony has been there for so many of us- through joys like births, weddings, birthdays, first books published, and graduations. He’s also been a friend and guide through our darkest times: deaths, illnesses, and trauma recovery.
Our community is resilient. We show up for each other, and now it’s time for us to show up for Tony and Susan. Any contribution, big or small, will make a difference. Thank you for your support.
