ABOUT SUSAN

Susan Heim-Davis is a pastor, singer, advocate, friend, mother, grandmother and all-around great person.  Any one who has ever met her knows that she lives her life with a rare passion that is truly contagious.  In her 30+ years in ministry she has performed hundreds of weddings, funerals, and baptisms adding a personal touch to each and every one.  She has spent hours at the bedside of the sick and dying, giving her gift of compassion and understanding.  After a lifetime of selflessly giving to all of those around her, she really needs help.  If Susan has ever touched your life with her singing, counseling, friendship, or wise words, please read on.  Susan needs your help.

WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?
Over the last several years, the house that Susan loves has slowly been modified to be handicap/wheelchair accessible.  But now, she is faced with a problem that is almost too big for her to overcome.  We have discovered that water has been coming in to her unfinished basement which has been overtaken by Black Mold.  Needless to say, this is an incredibly unhealthy living environment and Susan who already suffers from asthma, has been enduring terrible respiratory infections, bronchitis and pneumonia for months.  We have explored options of moving her, but financially, that isn’t a viable option.  We are turning to the community that she has loved for so long for some help.

We have gotten several bids for total mold remediation ranging from $8,000 to upwards of $20,000.  The cost of doing the repairs is complicated by the fact that no contractor knows just what they’re dealing with until the work has actually begun.  However, all agree that the mold is incredibly dangerous and removal is absolutely vital.  We have a team of volunteers standing by to seal the basement once the mold is gone to ensure things will stay dry and in good condition.

SUSAN’S BACKGROUND
After battling pain for years, Susan was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in 2000.  RA is an incredibly painful autoimmune disorder which occurs when your immune system mistakenly attacks your own body's tissues.  It affects the lining of your joints, causing a painful swelling that can eventually result in bone erosion and joint deformity.

In 2013, after two shoulder replacement surgeries, two knee replacement surgeries and EIGHT hip surgeries, doctors determined there was nothing left to do.  In the middle of the final hip surgery, without Susan even knowing, the doctor made the decision to remove half of her pelvis and her femur, leaving her wheelchair-bound for the rest of her life.

This would be unimaginably difficult for anyone to deal with, but Susan has the amazing ability to find the brighter side of almost any situation.  She has been dealt so many obstacles over the years, and I’m not sure any of us would deal with them with the grace that Susan has.  She has shown remarkable resilience, optimism and a willingness to meet the challenges.  This one is just too big to meet alone.
