Help Susan Odde Continue to Stay at Home

Susan is a kind, loving woman who has spent her life caring for others and now needs our help. Susan spent many years working as nurse for the Veteran's Administration where her physical body took the toll. Susan has very limited mobility related to years caring for others in the ICU and several unsuccessful surgical procedures to correct some of the damage. She can no longer safely navigate the stairs of her home leaving her home bound with limited social interaction on most days. She is reliant on walkers and wheelchairs and that makes any attempt to navigate the stairs extremely dangerous. Connection and community are the aspects of living a full life. Susan is unable to get out into the community alone and feels very disconnected. A wheelchair lift for her home would increase her ability to leave her home and find the connection we all require to heal. This lift would enable her to freely exit and enter her home. We are seeking YOUR help to make this happen. Please feel free to contact me for story edits, donations of the required equipment, volunteering your services etc.

Susan was admitted into the hospital on August 21, 2019 with renal failure. She was receiving daily dialysis. That treatment has ended successfully and the new battle begins. Susan is going into surgery this week to remove an infection that has settled into her spine and muscles in her lower back. This infection has comprised the equipment they had previously used to stabilize her lower back. The surgeons will be attempting to fuse some of the discs in her back as they surgically remove the infection from her spine and stabilizing muscles. The recovery will be long. We are believing in the best possible outcome.

(UPDATE) After some additional hospitalizations, a very scary stay at a one-star rated nursing facility, and a lot of help and patience, Susan is home for the foreseeable future. She is no longer able to stand on her own power (even with the assistance of walkers and other devices) and, as a result, requires 24x7 attended care. This is becoming quite expensive. Our hope is to keep her home and perhaps, with persistent physical therapy, get her up and taking care of herself again.
