Susan Howe has spent much of her life helping others. Now she needs our help as she fights acute myeloid leukemia, a rare and aggressive blood and bone marrow cancer.
Susan was diagnosed with leukemia in October, just a couple months after retiring as assistant attorney general with the state of Oregon. She’s completed several rounds of chemotherapy, and thanks to her great team at Sunnyside Kaiser Permanente, she is currently in remission.
Susan’s medical team has now scheduled her to undergo a bone marrow/stem cell transplant this month as the next critical step in her treatment. This will require more than a month in the hospital at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and several months recovery at home.
Much of the homecare and assistance Susan will need after the transplant is not covered by insurance. Your donations will help her to afford this essential care.
For those who know Susan (as I have since the 1970s!), you know she is a fighter. She also is a great friend, an advocate for shelter dogs and an accomplished attorney working on behalf of Oregonians. One of her former colleagues describes her as hard-working and whip-smart, the kind of advocate Oregonians needed in the office.
Her closest friends know her best for her enthusiasm for all things Harry Potter, her absolute love for her canine companion Neville, her voracious reading habits, and her amazing laugh.
Let’s band together to help Susan fight cancer!
