Approximately 7 years ago, a great friend of mine, Susan was diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer.  She underwent many months of chemotherapy, multiple surgeries and radiation, but this wasn't enough.  She had to undergo a double mastectomy, and months later, reconstructive surgery.  All these years later, Susan thought she was in the clear and cancer free to live her life, enjoy her kids and grandchildren.  Her hair grew back, and she became a speaker for the American Cancer Society volunteering her time whenever they asked.  Recently, she was diagnosed again with the devastating news that her cancer had metastasized to her abdomen and bones. She is now Stage IV and there's no cure. Susan had to quit her job because the chemo, shots and treatment she receives in the hope of destroying her cancer cells make her very sick. There are many days she cannot get off the couch and she's so weak and tired, she cannot eat or even walk.  She's having a very difficult time paying her bills, and there's no end to it because she's unable to work.  She counts on her daughter to take her to doctor appointments and chemo treatment because she cannot drive.  The meds make her foggy and dizzy and there are many days she's transported by wheel chair.   Her oncologists have told her stress can cause her tumor markers to move up, making the cancer worse.  I feel that this is her only recourse in making sure that she can pay her medical bills and keep her home.
