Our dear friend Susan, a lifelong animal advocate and community supporter in Puerto Escondido, has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. As she navigates this devastating chapter, she is in urgent need of financial assistance to help cover travel expenses to ensure her beloved pets can be safely placed with trusted rescue groups in Canada. We are also raising funds to assist Susan with her medical and end of life expenses.
Susan has spent years helping others—both people and animals. Since moving to Puerto Escondido 10 years ago, she has become a pillar of support for the local communities, expats and tourists alike. Many of you will remember her as the person who stepped in when you found a stray dog or kitten. Whether you needed help at the vet, advice on international pet travel, or just someone who cared, Susan was always there.
But perhaps her most impactful work has been since 2019. Since that time Susan has been organizing and running free monthly spay and neuter campaigns to help underserved communities, providing an opportunity for pet owners to be part of the solution of reducing the suffering and overpopulation of companion animals. In addition, many street and shelter animals have also been sterilized at these campaigns, because of her tireless dedication, 8,449 animals have been sterilized in communities in and around Puerto Escondido, dramatically reducing the number of stray cats and dogs. If that wasn't enough, Susan started Sunday TVT Treatment Clinics in her home, which has aided in reducing the spread of this highly contagious, yet very treatable Cancer in dogs.
Now it’s our turn to give back to Susan—someone who has given so much of herself to animals and this community. We are urgently trying to raise $15,000 CAD to ensure her 7 beloved pets can be safely placed and transported to trusted rescue groups in Canada, just as she’s done for so many others over the years. These animals are her greatest concern right now. The funds will also help cover her medical care and end-of-life costs during this incredibly difficult time.
If there are any remaining funds once covering these expenses, it will be used to support the next Spay and Neuter Campaigns in Susan’s name-keeping her spirit and compassion alive in the work she loved.
If you’ve ever been touched by her kindness, generous heart, or believe in supporting those who give selflessly to animals and their communities, please consider contributing. Any amount will help ease the financial burden and bring peace of mind to someone who has given so much to others.
Thank you so very much for your help.
