Help Survivors Get to Indy - SBC 2024
Donation protected
Hey everyone,
In recent years, survivors of sexual abuse within SBC churches have attended the SBC Annual Meeting (SBCAM) to to be present while discussions and votes take place. I believe sustained advocacy by survivors is crucial for lasting cultural change. Their presence in the room fosters clarity, connection, and action. Several survivors have requested support for attending the 2024 SBCAM in Indianapolis, IN (June 9-12). This fundraiser is not affiliated with the SBC or any of its affiliates.
While this gathering offers survivors a chance to engage with SBC leaders and each other, the associated costs—travel, lodging, and food—can be prohibitive for many. Past generosity has been remarkable in easing this financial burden for these precious people.
Some may wonder why survivors would choose to attend, given the potential emotional challenges. It's true, the environment can be difficult, yet these survivors choose to participate in order to connect with one another, talk to SBC leaders and messengers, or meet with the press. My aim in organizing this fundraiser is simply to support those who have decided to attend, without imposing conditions.
Regarding the recipients of fundraiser aid, out of respect for survivors' privacy, I won't disclose individual identities. However, I'll provide transparency by sharing expense breakdowns (e.g., flights, accommodations, meals) as I did last year. With variables like airfare and hotel room, I estimate somewhere between $1800 and $3200 in expenses for each survivor. As we approach the annual meeting and rooms & flights get finalized, we’ll be able to raise or lower the amount if needed. The initial goal will be $20,000 with the intention of helping 9-11 people.
All donations will directly support survivor expenses. Any surplus funds will be donated to a non-SBC-affiliated ministry supporting survivors.
Thank you for your support and compassion.
