Hi, my name is Mallory Manning.
My Journey with Pelvic Congestion Syndrome and Choosing a Hysterectomy
For years, I lived with pain I couldn’t explain. It wasn’t normal period cramps or something I could just push through. It was a constant, heavy ache in my pelvis that got worse when I stood too long or during my cycle. Deep down, I knew something wasn’t right—but for the longest time, no one could give me answers.
Eventually, after countless appointments and tests—ultrasounds, CT scans, and more—I was diagnosed with Pelvic Congestion Syndrome (PCS). It’s a condition where varicose veins develop in the pelvic area, causing chronic pain and pressure. It’s not well-known, and that made it even harder to deal with.
On top of the pain, I began bleeding heavily—so badly that I needed multiple blood transfusions. I felt weak all the time. I was exhausted, dizzy, and emotionally drained. I tried an IUD to help regulate things, but it didn’t work. Other treatments like pain meds and therapy gave me little relief. Nothing seemed to fix it.
The emotional toll has been just as hard as the physical pain. There were days I felt hopeless, dismissed, and invisible. I struggled to keep up with life and felt overwhelmed by the financial burden of trying to get help. It’s scary asking for support, but sometimes there’s no other option.
After everything, I made the decision to have a hysterectomy. It’s not an easy choice, and it comes with grief and fear—but also hope. I want to live without this pain. I want to reclaim my life.
I’m sharing this in case someone else out there is silently struggling. If that’s you, please don’t give up. Advocate for yourself. Your pain is real. You’re not alone.
I will be undergoing my surgery on October 15th... Everyone keep me in their prayers. This is not a decision that I came upon lightly. I'm just tired of suffering.
I will be taking a large amount of time off from work. It will affect me financially, but it's better than suffering anymore.
