It has been a very difficult time as everyone has been impacted by COVID-19 pandemic in one way or another. We have all heard horror stories about what is happening in New York hospitals.

 For me personally, it hits close to home, as my dear friend is assigned to attend patients infected with COVID-19 virus in the only COVID-19 dedicated hospital in Brooklyn, SUNY Downstate. 

Just weeks ago, there was no such thing as a COVID-dedicated physician.

This hospital has been featured in several CNN cover stories, and described as the war zone-like scene with “a level of intensity that you only see in disaster zones."
 
As more patients fall critically ill and hospital admissions rise due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic, SUNY Downstate hospital struggled to add more ICU beds by repurposing other hospital rooms and facilities including the cafeteria.

The death toll in New York City, the global epicenter of the outbreak, is mounting. 

While saving lives of patients afflicted by COVID-19 virus, the dedicated staff faces the highest risk of being infected: all MDs, nurses, residents, are running critically low on basic personal protective equipment (PPE). Access to PPEs - gloves, masks, and scrubs - is severely limited. 

Daily life has slowed down for millions of Americans, but it’s ramping up for medical professionals. 

In order to alleviate this burden, I am looking for ways to support medical workers at SUNY Downstate by buying gift cards that can be used towards food purchases as well as PPE supplies.
