Help Supporting Jennas Recovery
Donation protected
Jenna was pregnant with twins on the morning of May 27th, 2021. She woke up, went to get out of bed, and fell to the floor. Our lives have changed so much from that point on. We learned that Jenna had an AVM in her brain, which had ruptured. Her chance of survival, according to the neurosurgeon, was 3%. Jenna stayed in the ICU for about nine months. After the AVM was removed and her Neuro storms calmed down, she transferred to TIRR inpatient rehab, where they maximized her chances of recovery. Jenna was determined to be fully conscious and not in a vegetative state anymore. Jenna was able to return home in march of 2022. I was laid off from my job because I am Jenna's caregiver. She does not qualify through insurance for a caretaker. She did not stay home for very long. She has been back in the hospital fighting all kinds of medical troubles. She has had multiple VP Shunt revisions and severe neuro storms, and now we are battling bone health issues. Jenna can not do anything at all for herself. She can not tell me if she is hot or cold unless I ask her. Off and on, Jenna can mouth "yes" or "no" when asked questions.
Jenna and I have three kids. Our oldest is 6, and the twins are 18 months. I have applied for social security and have not received an answer yet. Jenna was a 5th-grade math and science teacher. Her disability through TRS only pays $120 a month for 73 months. The good thing about TRS is that she receives health insurance while we wait for Medicare. I can not afford to pay the out-of-pocket expenses, medication, and all the supplies needed to take care of Jenna. Jenna will come home in January.
It's tough for me to do, but I need to ask for help. I'm usually the person helping others. Thank you for taking the time to read a summary of the road we are traveling now. Any help is very appreciated
