Update on Wesley Greene
We want to say thank you to everyone who gave donations, prayers, and good energy to our GoFundMe Account. We want to provide an update on Wes’ health. While we tried very hard to stay in Alaska and heal his cancer “we refer to it as a plot twist”, it was just not possible. This “plot twist “ is a very aggressive beast. On December 13 we started the trek to Phoenix to stay with our Son Justice and his Wife Maria and began treatment at the Mayo Clinic. It took 3 days to get from AK to AZ due to Wes being quite weak for the trip. We left Whale Pass and stayed the night at the other end of the Island, took a 3 hour ferry ride to Ketchikan and stayed the night there. On Sunday morning we left Ketchikan after a 3 hour flight delay and flew to Seattle where our Daughter Cheyenne escorted us to Phoenix. Our children have been so good to us and we are so proud to have raised such amazing adults. Their spouses and children are more than we could ever ask for and we are so proud and thankful for all of them. Wes is very pleased with the Mayo Clinic as they have already lived up to their reputation. This journey has just begun and we know it’s not going to be an easy one. Justice and Maria have made us very comfortable and we are very grateful to be able to stay with them. We also know that there will be many medical bills, and things we will need to continue this journey. So many have asked how they can help. If you feel led to donate we appreciate any contribution, but more importantly please continue with your prayers, uplifting thoughts and love. We have felt the love that has been shown to us, even from people we don’t even know personally. We still have hopes to return to Alaska. Our dogs are there being loved by our wonderful neighbors. All of our belongings are there…..and with Gods Grace we will be too. Thank you again for all the love.
Debbie and Wesley
Wes Greene, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and U.S. Coast Guard veteran, has spent a lifetime in service—first to his country and then as a deputy for Henrico and New Kent Counties. Wes is the proud father of six and grandfather of seven. His lifelong dream has been to move to Alaska, a love he developed while serving in the Coast Guard. After years of hard work and four years of careful planning, Wes and his wife Debbie finally sold their Virginia farm. They packed what they could in shipping containers that were barged from Seattle to Prince of Wales Island, Alaska.
They invested everything from their Virginia farm sale to make this dream move happen. But shortly after arriving, Wes was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer that has since metastasized to his bones and lymph nodes.
Refusing to let this “plot twist” define him, Wes has chosen not to take the conventional treatment route and instead has assembled a team of alternative care providers focused on nurturing his body, mind, and spirit. His goal is to enjoy a meaningful, high-quality life in the stunning landscapes of Alaska, where he can savor wild-caught salmon and the peace he always dreamed of. Unfortunately, alternative care isn’t covered by insurance, and the expenses have mounted quickly.
Your support will help Wes and Debbie remain in Alaska and access the care that best aligns with his vision for healing. Donations are appreciated but your gifts of light, love, and prayers are the ultimate support. Let’s rally around Wes so he can continue living his dream set in motion surrounded by the beauty he worked so hard to reach.
