My name is Stephanie and I’m raising funds on behalf of my dad, Wayne Hangen. He’s currently in the hospital in Tucson, AZ (not our hometown) due to enduring a bicycle crash during the Tour De Tucson bike race on Saturday, 11/22.

Sounds like a crazy story, but my dad was riding along about 31-32 mph downhill when two javelinas darted across the road in front of him. With a split-second decision, he tried to squeeze in between them, but the second javelina closed the gap and took out Dad's front of his bicycle. Dad went flying over the handlebars of his bike and landed on his left side on the pavement. He was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital where he received emergency care and stayed in the ICU for multiple days.

Dad endured 6 broken ribs on his left side, multiple hip fractures, rib surgery, a collapsed lung, a chest tube and multiple bumps and bruises. Dad is still currently in the hospital still on oxygen due to his collapsed lung but unable to receive inpatient rehab in Tucson due to insurance and needs to be transferred back home to Las Vegas, NV once he is stable enough to travel.

My family is not the asking type, but if you have extra change to spare to help my parents cover the cost for medical transport home (7-hour drive), I appreciate you taking the time to read this and your consideration. Even healing thoughts and well wishes are appreciated to help lift spirits up. Any additional funds they receive and do not use for transport, they plan to donate to the Alzheimer’s Society on behalf of Ray Thomas who passed in August 2024 (Mom’s dad).

For further clarification, the funds raised through this GoFundMe are being raised on behalf of my dad. The funds will be directly transferred from this site to their bank account as I added my mom (Sue Hangen) as the beneficiary to help manage the page for dad as he in unable to at this time.
