My name is Wyatt Corrigan, and I’m writing this to share what happened and to support my friend Calvin.
This past week, my fellow official and friend Calvin Stace and I were driving home after working a USHL game as part of USA Hockey’s Advanced Officiating Development Program (AODP). It was a routine trip we’ve made countless times before - talking hockey, breaking down plays, and looking ahead to the next opportunity.
Unfortunately, this drive didn’t end the way either of us could have imagined. On the way home, we were involved in a serious rollover car accident.
It all happened so fast. One moment we were on the road, and the next, everything was out of control. The vehicle rolled, and in that moment, nothing else mattered except whether we were going to make it out alive.
By the grace of God, we both survived.
The Aftermath
We were both taken to the hospital. Thankfully, I was able to be released later that same night with bumps and bruises, and a whole new perspective on how fragile life really is. Calvin, however, has had a much tougher road. His car was completely totaled, and he is now facing significant medical bills as a result of his injuries and treatment.
Who Calvin Is
Anyone who knows Calvin knows the kind of person he is. Hardworking, dedicated, and passionate about hockey.
As a veteran of the AODP, he has invested countless hours into his craft, not just to improve himself, but to help others along the way. Calvin has been a mentor to many new members of the program, especially rookies in their first or second year. He is always willing to share his knowledge, offer guidance, and help them with anything they need along the way. He’s put in the time, earned his opportunities, and never asks for anything in return.
Why Help is Needed
For hockey officials, having reliable transportation isn’t optional, it’s essential. We travel constantly to get to games, often driving long distances multiple times a week. Without a car, it becomes nearly impossible to continue officiating at this level.
With Calvin’s vehicle now totaled, this accident didn’t just impact his health, it directly impacts his ability to work and pursue the game he loves.
That’s why we are fundraising to help cover Calvin’s medical bills and replace his car, so he can get back on the road, back to the rink, and back to doing what he loves.
The Support of the Hockey Community
The hockey community, and especially the AODP, is incredibly tight knit. We travel, work, and grow together, and the support we give one another is unlike anything else. Even in the short time since the accident, people from the program and across the hockey world have already reached out to check in and offer help. It’s been overwhelming in the best way and reminds us how lucky we are to be part of this family.
How You Can Help
The financial burden from medical expenses combined with the loss of his vehicle is something no one should face alone. Any contribution, big or small, will go directly toward helping cover Calvin’s medical expenses and replacing his car.
If you have already contributed to a different fund for Calvin, you have already done your part, thank you so much. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this campaign means just as much to us.
I also want to say how thankful I am to be here and able to support Calvin through this. This experience has given me a whole new perspective, not just on hockey, but on life. While I was fortunate to walk away with minor injuries, I’m committed to doing everything I can to help him through this recovery, just like he’s helped so many others throughout his career.
With your help, we’re hopeful we can turn this situation into something positive, helping Calvin get back on his feet and allowing both of us to move forward together.
