Help support to keep us afloat after a freak accident!

Hi, my name Alexis MacQueen. My boyfriend and I just relocated to Calgary Alberta this past month. Only a few weeks after we arrived my boyfriend Christien had a freak accident in the garage. We were celebrating me finally getting a job here and he fell off his chair in the garage. He fell into a large picture frame and the glass shattered into large pieces. One of those pieces lodged in Christien’s jugular and he started to bleed out. I called 911 and was instructed on how to slow the bleeding down by pinching his carotid artery. The firefighters and EMS soon arrived and were able to get the bleeding under control.

After many surgeries and blood transfusions he was considered stable. Later on his airway closed and he was placed in the ICU on a ventilator. He has remained in the ICU for 8 days now and will be staying here until he has improved. From there he will be transferred to the trauma unit and there is no end date to his hospital stay at this time.

Unfortunately as we all know even when life stops the bills do not. We had used all of our money to get out here and Christien had a good job to get us through. He is now unable to work and won’t be able to for some time. That meaning the bills have fallen to me. I only started my job this week and it is not very high paying.

I am reaching out to friends and family to help in any way possible. This freak accident has left me in a very difficult position. The trauma and strain of the current situation plus now the financial burden is proving to be very difficult.

I want to already thank everyone who has reached out and all the support. It has made a world of a difference. Even though we are out here just the 2 of us, the emotional support has been amazing. Christien’s father was able to come help this past week but sadly he cannot stay forever.

Thank you to everyone and also thank you to all the staff at Foothills hospital and first responders. Without them my boyfriend would not be here today.
