Help Support The Thobe Family
This GoFundMe was created to help the Thobe family in their time of need. The proceeds will help support their family as Jeff continues to battle both Follicular Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma. I recently married Cassie and have always been very impressed with her character and assumed it came from a great upbringing. The first time I met Jeff, Kathy, Sami, and Tucker, those assumptions were proven to be correct. The Thobe family has incredible respect and appreciation for others in their lives. They never ask anyone for help, but always are the first to offer a helping hand. I think it is important in this trying time in their lives, for us to offer our help.
At Christmas time in 2019, the Thobe’s world was forever changed. After finding a mass in his stomach, Jeff was diagnosed with two forms of Lymphoma, Follicular Lymphoma, which is treatable, but not curable, and Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma, which is an aggressive cancer. After many tests and undergoing six rounds of chemo treatments (RCHOP), Jeff had been in remission. A week after our wedding (June 5th, 2021), Jeff went in for a routine checkup, and again, their world was turned upside down. The PET scan revealed that Jeff’s cancer was back. Once again, Jeff had to endure many tests and procedures, then promptly began an aggressive chemo treatment (RICE). For each chemo treatment, Jeff must stay in the hospital for 4 days, while Kathy stays in a nearby hotel.
After Jeff finishes with the RICE chemo treatments, he then will begin a stem cell transplant. During this process, Jeff and Kathy will have to physically live in Rochester for 6 weeks while the doctors monitor his vitals and blood each day. Included in this 6-week process is yet another hospital stay for 5-days of chemo (nicknamed chemok-kazi). There will be a heavy financial burden on their family before even considering the medical bills, such as hotel stays, food costs, transportation, and loss of income. Considering the circumstances, it would be easy to give up, but this family has a fighting spirit. I know Jeff will continue to fight this and come out on top.
Thoughts are also with Sami as she has hip surgery at the end of July, just a few days before Kathy and Jeff head back to Mayo for Jeff’s second 4-day hospital stay.
Life always seems to throw the toughest challenges at the toughest people. The Thobes are a very strong group and I know they will continue to fight this and overcome it. Any amount given will go directly to the cost of medical bills and other unforeseen expenses that come. Thank you for supporting this incredible family!
